Yes, that's what I meant. I think it's already too late here in Germany to
write SQL UDFs (and their execution) without access to a machine.

minor typo.

In any event, interesting....Three separate methods, I wonder which
performs better?

Perhaps if Scott's actual table is a decent size, he can try them all
and let us know.

My money would be on Chuck's, followed by mine, followed by
Birgitta's.  But I could be wrong....
