The XML parser on my web site is not "Scott Klement's".  It's called 
Expat, and is an open source project.  I had no part in it's 
development.  It was developed by folks such as James Clark, Clark 
Cooper and Fred Drake.

I find the phrase "third party roll your own stuff" misleading.

Expat is used as an underlying component in many well-known and 
respected tools, such as Apache, Lua, Perl, Python, PHP, and Firefox to 
name a few.  It's an extremely widely-used and well-known XML parser.

I don't know if that matters in your politics -- but it might matter to 
other folks who read this mailing list or it's archives.

There are many other XML tools out there. IBM provides an XML toolkit 
for the i that's available in older releases -- personally, I don't like 
it -- but it exists :)

COBOL has an XML parser built in starting with V5R3.  (RPG has one in 
V5R4, as you know)  Java has pretty much always had open source XML 
parsers available.  PHP as well.

There are lots of commercial offerings as well, such as Krengel 
Technology's RPG-XML (www.rpg-xml.com).
