We experienced the same thing but on a smaller scale. The battery WAS weak but could have easily handled the "flicker". Personally, I think there should be an option on a "battery weak" condition that you can determine the delay before powerdown. Something like the QUPSDLYTIM but specifically for "Weak Battery" conditions. Perhaps up to 5 seconds (maybe use milliseconds as the value).

Although it sounds "risky", the flip side is that a flicker is no reason to shut down on a weak battery. Notification, yes. Immediate shutdown, no.

I know this is a bit different that your scenario, but a a weak battery delay might help in a situation like this.

Perhaps I'll submit a DCR.

1. Should I test the UPS, sense cable, and iSeries on a Sunday when I can put both partitions system in restricted mode.?
2. Hire a technician to determine the status of the UPS first?
3. Replace the sense cable?
4. Install management software for the UPS?
5. Buy a Tripp-Lite?
6. Eliminate the sense cable? We haven't needed it in at least 9 years.
