Could it be XP's firewall?

Sorry... firewall is impossible. STRPCCMD just sends a specially crafted screen to your 5250 emulator. It's just a regular screen, like you would create with DDS, except that there's a special code in it that tells the 5250 emulator to execute it as a command instead of displaying it to the user.

But, it's just another screen. It couldn't possibly be blocked by a firewall (unless the emulator itself is blocked... but that would be a much more serious and obvious symptom)

Contrast this with RUNRMTCMD -- which does NOT run through a 5250 emulator, but has it's own separate TCP conversation on it's own separate port. RUNRMTCMD will often have firewall problems. Not an issue with STRPCCMD.
