Hi Nick,

Symbol devices are typically shipped with WaveLink's 5250 client
(TE5250) on them. My guess is that they were purchased pre-configured.
It sounds as if the repair depot reloaded the devices with default
configurations. Avalanche has no role in running the telnet client or
communicating to your System i. WaveLink's Avalanche product is an
added, chargeable software suite, that among other things allows you to
push configurations and keyboard maps to the Symbol devices. Avalanche,
if you have it, would run on a Windows PC. If you don't have Avalanche,
WaveLink provides a utility called Terminal Configuration Manager
(CFGMGR.EXE). Using this would require you to cradle the device and
download the keyboard maps directly from a PC.

Hi Dan,

Thanx for the reply.

But, where I am confused is that we do not have an Avalanche Server, or
anything similar. It is my understanding our scanners connect to our
AS/400 via the access points, then to our network, then to our AS/400
and
MAPICS. We do not have any Servers residing on our AS/400.

All of our scanners that we purchased were already configured correctly.

All of them the same. This happened with these 2 scanners when we sent
them in for repairs, they came back different.
