First, can you "alter table" the tables to add the aliases, I don't
recall. And even if you can't, you shouldn't be updating the tables
"live" as you'll need the create/alter table scripts to apply in test
and production through change control -- so get the tools to generate a
script and then tweak it for the i-specific requirements.

Second, since I would assume (hope/pray) that the java developers were
using some sort of ORM to do their actual data access so they don't
really care about the DB column names, they'll never be using them.
