I certainly agree with this. We have over 40 Zebra label printers and I always buy the ZebraNet print servers. They're about $200. Get the external print server if you can because you can always move it to another printer if you have mechanical problems with your primary printer.

I found this:

http://www.zebra.com/id/zebra/na/en/index/about_zebra/alliances/strategic_alliances/ibm.html

Specifically:
"Zebra printers can connect to the IBM System i environment through the
IBMSNMPDRV Device Driver, IBM's recommended integration method, using the
ZebraNet 10/100 Print Server, which supports fast printing and real-time
monitoring. Zebra also supports connectivity through remote print queues."

Not necessarily....

I've often found label printers that worked with the IBMSNMPDRV or
IBMIPPDRV...even though nothing in the specs mentioned that support.

We do use HPT on ours, though I'm not sure why. The printer language
(ZPL) is all ASCII text based, so there's not really anything for HPT to
transform. You cannot use HPT to support the BARCODE keyword in an
AFPDS print stream, since HPT does not know ZPL.

I think that was bashed around months ago. Can a Zebra label printer be
attached directly to System i - either at v5r4 or v6r1, via TCP/IP? Can
HPT be used?
