Well this morning I found out that as part of the application software
upgrade, windows 2003 service pack 2 was installed. No updates were
applied after the fact. (There were 46 waiting to be applied.) Even
though I had the server rebooted to see if that would fix the problem,
the updates were not applied.
Once I learned that there were so many outstanding fixes and that SP2
was just installed, I decided to install the fixes and reboot the
server. Now I can get to the windows server shares from QNTC with no
problems. I cannot say what fix took care of the problem, but being up
to date works.
As a side note, I learned that share names over 12 characters long are
not supported and just do not show up in QNTC. Server names have to be
15 characters or shorter. Keep that in mind as you create shares on
your windows servers.
