How does one ensure that a user-defined subsystem starts when the system
does?
Is it just a matter of changing QSTRUP? Or is it something else?
James:
The startup program is the most common method, since that's how IBM
ships systems. Alternatively, you could add an auto-start entry to
your controlling subsystem or to any other subsystem that would
normally be started as a default on your system.
By adding an entry to a secondary subsystem, you have slightly more
assurance of the timing. E.g., if you don't want SBSX to start until
after QSERVER starts, add an auto-start to QSERVER.
Customization is available all over.
Also, if you're talking about versions of i5/OS beyond V5R3, you
might want to open iNav and review My Connections-> [your_system]->
Network-> Servers-> User-Defined.
You can now define your own "servers" and have them be controlled
pretty much like any TCP/IP server on the system, including via
STRTCPSVR and ENDTCPSVR. If you don't want to use iNav, then review
the ADDTCPSVR command.
