Guesting does give you some advantages. Mainly the lack of hardware
commitment. No separate raid controllers. All disk arms are helping to
spread the work. You can incremental amounts of disk on the fly. This
disk is exactly like adding disk to IXS cards.

I would like to not have tied up the hardware like this. I also like the
thought that an advocate like Erwin L. Earley who might be able to find
out if there really are issues trying to use tape drives on TSM through
guested Linux that are just oh so much better on dedicated Linux, or if
they were grasping at straws. Then again, Chris Edwards might just say do
dedicated anyway and stop messing with it.

After all, they may have been right. One reason TSM was such a disaster
in pase is because the pase api's to talk to the tape drives sucked so bad
(from what IBM told me). But guested Linux is a totally different animal
than pase.
