Yes, we had this back on the S/36 and earlier. It was called internally
defined files. They sucked.
Always leave room at the end for growth, on hardware in which you were
severely limited to the number of disk drives you could install.
Then use IDDU to overlay the internally defined files with definitions
that were not usable for programming but were usable for Query/36 and
stuff.
