That's an Oops! Correct that the default by omission is for Insert, not Update. Sorry. For DML UPDATE then SET DEFAULT or SET CURRENT TIMESTAMP. Otherwise as already noted in other replies, an UPDATE TRIGGER in addition to the logical view omitting the TIMESTAMP column, or with both UPDATE and INSERT TRIGGERs.
