Is changing the PC's to an ip address only during the interim of the
change? Otherwise, using an ip address or host based tables is a bad
idea. Our network consultant routinely has us change IP addresses.
Something about redoing subnets and stuff but I really suspect contract
hours...
Actually, during the interim there is nothing stopping from having your
DNS serve both i5.dilgardfoods.com and i5.dilgardfoods.local to the same
ip address. So change your DNS and PC's now.
I use *LOCAL. You really shouldn't have a bunch in your i's host table
anyway. If you do, you probably have a valid reason that you want it to
go there instead of searching your DNS.
Most of my host table entries are used for documentation. For example if
I have 12 interfaces, (or IP addresses) on this one lpar I may create a
host table entry for each of them so that you know that xxx.xxx.xxx.201 is
the i, xxx.xxx.xxx.202 is Domino server A, xxx.xxx.xxx.203 is Domino
server B, that WAS instance, that ...
In case they get dropped from the DNS or some such thing and the interface
doesn't get cleared off of the i.
