Been there. Doing that.
I currently have 24 filters set up. It's beautiful.
Under "Settings" then "Labs" there's a Custom Label Colors that's really
nice. You can set the label background color AND the label text color.

For those of you using gmail and/or google apps for domains, there is a
pretty cool filtering operator you can use to keep your list mail nicely
organized with labels.
If you setup a filter with the following expression in the "Has the
condition: 'list:"midrange-l.midrange.com"', it will match all messagesin
the midrange-l list from midrange.com.in
From there you can apply a label (such as "midrange-l" and gmail willautomatically categorize your messages.
You can also use the "Filter messages like this" from the drop down list
the upper right hand corner to create filter automatically.list
