Way back when we used twinax I had this happen sometimes. Some terminals
I never did get to print right. Some I had IBM come in and put firmware
upgrades on. Since I am willing to bet that you do not have them under
maintenance that's probably not an option for you.
Actually I think either the printer ports were getting worse, or the
printers were getting more complicated, and gave up on terminal attached
printers.
