Back in the day of direct files, remember those, the order of the
records made a big difference cause you access the records via Relative
Record Number.  The master file pointed to the first transaction record
which point to the previous and next record.  What a mess if you did a
file reorg.

It will also depend on how you're accessing the data. Whether an index
is used or the table is scanned, and if an index is used, and if there's
select/omit, is it static or dynamic. And of course, since you asked a
performance question the standard official performance answer applies:
"It depends!" :-)
