Do you know the value of $SHELL when the program is called from

My first thought was to look for an environment variable or similar.
QSH doesn't set the SHELL variable so that's out.
There is a QSH_VERSION variable but that appears to be a shell
variable rather than an environment variable. I don't want to require
use of a shell script to launch this from QSH. It's just a program
that needs no special pre-processing (i.e., like an HLL that doesn't
require a CL to set overrides).
There is a TERMINAL_TYPE=5250 environment variable set by QSH but
because it's an env-var it could be added outside QSH (as you point
out below) so that's not suitable (fails the absolutely/positively
requirement).
One thing to consider: your link doesn't HAVE to be symbolic to the
program
object, does it? Couldn't it be a script that sets up overriding
parameters
(perhaps simply by setting some environment variable) and then links
to the
program object (perhaps with a special command-line switch)? Does
that
help? Of course the issue there is that environment variables can
also be
set from the ADD/CHG/RMV ENVVAR command set and flags can be passed
from
CALL, which violates the absolutely/positively aspect of your
question. But
maybe (if $SHELL is a clue) the combination can be absolute? Hmmm...
It doesn't HAVE to be a symbolic link but since there is no reason for
using a script (other than your suggestion to set a special env-var)
then I don't consider that an acceptable solution--more a work-around.

Simon Coulter.
