just curious, how does IVM talk to the BC-S blades to get and change
the partition config settings?

HyperCall APIs, i'd guess. But the IVM may provide other important
functionality, such as SCSI emulation in order to export disks to
i5/OS.

Would be fun to write a .NET app that
performed the same functions as IVM and Advanced Management Module
admin.

You should be able to tell the IVM what to do remotely, using ssh. The
same goes for the AMM.

But i can't see how you could _replace_ IVM using a .NET application -
see SCSI Emulation.

power down the blade itself.

Should be possible. ssh with public/private key authentication, issue
a timed shutdown command to VIOS.
