We start rolling our own back in the days of by-sync communications. We
typically communicate through 4 buying groups or VANs so don't have to do
a lot of custom customer by customer or vendor by vendor options. Writing
the programs to create quotes, purchase orders and invoices to send, and
purchase orders and invoices to receive translating to/from the x12
formats is not too bad. We do all of our send/receive via ftp. If you
roll your own ftp be sure to save EVERYTHING you send/receive including
every script and every log and be able to find them easily and to be able
to resend. When someone calls and says they didn't get something, I can't
describe how wonderful it is to be able to say "We sent that po to you at
this date/time and here is your response back saying you got it."
