I had trouble, not with reboots, but a with a single failed operation whereby the schedules had to be re-entered even though they were recurring operations. This was an OS bug that has since been fixed.

We have not seen this. We use the HMC Scheduled operations function to
move memory betweem LPARS six times a day and the schedule entries for
all LPARs survive HMC reboots and LPAR IPLs.

I have not used APRM but can't figure out what functionality that could
have that the HMC does not.

1 - I've not used the HMC schedule, but I thought I heard that if you
reboot your hmc you have to reenter the schedule entries - which makes
no sense to me.

2 - Barsa Consulting peddles a product called APRM for Automatic
Partition Resource Manager.

The HMC can move IO Adapters via a schedule entry, which makes it very
easy.

I need to share a tape library between two partitions for backup using
BRMS which will use DDM so I have one database.

I know I can move a tape drive/library from one partition to another
with a pgm and that is an option.

What other ways can I share the tape library between two partitions?

Electric SCSI switch? Daisy chain SCSI devices? etc?

Jerry
