In an interactive SQL session I typed

select * from file1 exceptin join file2 on etc......

Would you have thought that the request would run? You can put almost
anything inplace of the word exception. As for the results returned, I
haven't checked.

Yes, the statement is fine. It's giving an internal name to the table. For
example, you could have done
"select exceptin.column1, exceptin.column2 from file1
[exception] join file2 on..."
