I debated with myself about posting initially to Midrange-L, RPG400, or WEB400. While I agree that this is an important topic for RPG and Web developers, this topic seems to be more than a language or Web topic. I presume that Open I/O handlers could be written in any ILE language, for example. Ian Jarman also made several references to the 5250 data stream in his presentation, and indicated that Open I/O provided an alternative to that. Open I/O handlers may also evoke Java for interfacing with JDBC compliant databases. We also have a lot of RPG programmers on Midrange-L.
