I wonder, what with a connection to an f-spec, whether the format name 
will be a part of what is passed. And maybe indicators CAN be a part of 
this - I've not gone to the extent of dealing with how indicators are 
stored - probably in some buffer. I've mostly dealt with data files, not 
display or printer files - when working with input/output buffers.

Hmm - what to do with indicator data structures!!

OK - back to the present - not back to the future!
