Aaron,

We are on V5R4. I have created an optical image catalog to save to, and
backup what is required to that image file with the appropriate i5/os save
commands. The image file is then copied from the IFS to a file server on
the network right after the save is complete. I use the QNTC links on the
iSeries to copy the IFS file. I automated the whole thing in a CL program.
You could copy/move/FTP that image to any storage medium from the IFS.

HTH

What are others doing in the arena of backing up data to digital mediums?
I
am just not a tape guy because that means I have to remember to switch
something out. Right now I have a small Java app that I run and it FTP's
source from the IBM i to my Linux desktop which subsequently is backed up
by
JungleDisk to Amazon's S3 service. What I would like to do is take my PC
out of the mix and backup more than just source (though I am mostly only
interested in source as both of my machines are used for development).
