Personally, I was impressed that Bern's multi-billion dollar enterprise was running on basically 1 iSeries (House 5). The other one (House 17 was for him and his CFO to print bogus trade confirmations and stockholder reports.

There was no 'fudging of data' in House 5, it all appeared legit because the trades were actually occurring, albeit only in the Bernosphere.

The only oddity was Bern had 40 or 50 IT people working for him when (as the article mentioned) there should have only been 8 or 10 at most. With that many IT people running around, everyone probably thought it was a Windoze shop.

"I asked myself how Bernie could have hidden and maintained this for so long. A lot of it was done because he had proprietary and legacy systems. And he relied on IT people he hired and paid" to not upset the status quo, says McMahon.

This is so bogus. Total Ignorance.
Mr. McMahon, I have worked on the Iseries for over 20 years and had to leave when I was laid off and couldn't find a new job with it. Now I work on SQL Servers.

Quick and dirty data fudging can occur just the same. it's even easier with plain SQL Server Sudio updates that don't necessary leave any trace. At least, DFU produces a report.

What a farce.
