I only have seen it used once at another place of business! (and that
was enough)

Our night operator thought he was freeing up space that couldn't be used
(and he sort of did!) like a defrag or recover lost clusters on a PC.
But when he found out we didn't have any data in the files anymore he
"quickly" put it back. Luckily we didn't have any tape i/o errors!!!

Having been there, done that (so to speak). I'm not sure where the
value in doing this would be, other than to scare the blue blazes out of
the IT staff!
