I'm going to check out the GETIPTF command.

I just went through the pain (not too painful) of doing this whole
process manually :-)

And, as an unsolicited endorsement, GETIPTF is a no brainer. Really! A
great, easy to use, tool. Just enter the user id, password and PTF path
from the email you receive when you request an FTP download . Submit it
and forget it. The image catalog is mounted and ready
