Or you could do a repair install (on XP / 2003), which is basically
the same as what you did on the IBM i.

Vista and newer have a much more reliable servicing stack (Which, to
some extent, is similar on how the IBM i handles patching), where you
can rollback half-done installs without much issues.

Just to keep the FUD here to a minimum :)
