The original quote is: "A woman without a man is like a fish without a 
bicycle," traditionally attributed to Gloria Steinem.  The version above 
is by a Vietnam veteran named Ron Ferrell.

And just to add my own insight, a man without religion is in the 
minority, both in this country and in the world at large.
