Exactly what do you think is different between a "local PC" and a
"Windows share somewhere on a corporate network"???

Assuming the "local PC" is running windows, and it probably is if
you're using QNTC, then the answer is there's no difference.

Windows PC use the SMB protocol for file sharing (supported on the i
via QNTC and NetServer)
Linux/Unix use NFS protocol for file sharing (which the i also supports)

However, by installing an optional component or two, you can give NFS
support to Windows or SMB support to Linux/Unix.
