First, these are financial auditors not, in my opinion/experience, D.P. auditors. Every year, when they get around to the D.P. part of the audit, the guy/gal reads from a script on a PC, fills in our answers, and disappears. I've dealt with real EDP auditors and these scripts don't fit the mold (preconception, if you will).

That said, I'll pass it back to my boss to ask them what they mean by "verified." My expectation is that, since they are from a PC environment, they are used to a "Verify" option such as we use for our Windows server (Symantec Backup, I think). Or as is used when creating/verifying CD's. I.e., re-read the media and compare it to what's on the disk. If I get back anything different, I'll post it here.

I'll also follow Rob's suggestion and file a PMR. Maybe they can, at least, point me to some document/URL/whatever.

Thanks.

Jerry--

Ask them what they mean by 'verified.' Do they mean that you are
definitely, positively able to read what's on the tapes?

Our auditors seem happy when we let them know that we routinely call
tapes back from our off-site storage service and are able to retrieve
the data we say we have.
