Hi, Rob:

Installing GCC installs a copy of the "missing" libstdc ... you do not actually have to "compile" anything with GCC.

(Perhaps Scott could have included any dependencies, e.g. libstdc, in his tarball for 7Zip ...?)

If you really do not want or need GCC, after you install it, you could move libstdc into the directory where you installed "7Zip" and then delete all the GCC stuff... as it is just taking up a bunch of disk space, if you have no intention of using it.
