If the battery is truly bad, it will detect that and not wait the 1000+
days. Test the battery and see if it is good or bad.

Subject: 5580 Aux Cache Card goes Degraded 6 hours after a new ( IBM )
battery

I have a client running an 825 as a DR box and No IBM maintenance. We
recently upgraded some of the disk controllers to 5580s with refurbished
(
aka Used ) parts. This controller ran fine for some period of time
initially
be then turned off the cache. After replacing the battery and we viewed
the
Battery Info and it showed the 1000+ days until the warning etc and the
card
was running normally. Looking at the logs and the drives they are now
Degraded again and the battery shows failed once again after about 6hrs.

I'm having the client swap batteries with the actual controller ( 2780 )
and
see if the problem moves to that card. Anyone seen this before? Any
other
ideas?
