Yes the battery will charge as long as it's connected and not failed. There is a circuit card on the battery that counts the power on days and limits the charge current for the battery. Realistically though if the thing has been running for more than a day that battery isn't going to take a charge. Usually I've seen only a small number of minutes before the card goes normal.
