If you change your backups to "Save Access Paths" *YES the index will be
saved along with the physical files. As long as the physical and
logical files are in the same library the access path is restored along
with the file.

Yes, your backups will take somewhat longer, and take more space on the
backup medium, but the convenience during a restore is nice.

As far as the time it takes to restore the file-- you have to weigh the
chances of having to restore your system against the convenience of
improving your daily operations.
