Does the same problem exist if the files are DDS defined? Might be worth checking. Also you don't say what the error is when using the SQL defined tables - that would be nice to know.

In the past I have always done this kind of stuff using a simple RPG or COBOL program. In general I have found it takes less time than trying to convince a utility to do something it wasn't designed to do.
