Port 445 on System i5 520

Good morning:

 

As I was looking through my firewall's logs this morning, I noticed
several attempts by unknown IPs to connect to port 445 of my i5.  

 

With some Googling, I found that port 445 is a common port for hackers
to attack on Windows systems.  What is port 445 used for?  

 

Is there a way to lock down a specific port on the i5 side?  I seem to
remember a screen that showed which ports were in use and for what, but
I can't seem to find it now.   (UPDATE:  I just found the screen in
Navigator that shows all the ports - it appears my only option would be
to STOP listening on port 445.  Would this break anything else though?)

 

I am aware of the 3rd party security applications that are available,
but I'm not really interested in a 3rd party solution.  I could just as
easily block port 445 at the firewall, but I want to make sure that I'm
not breaking anything by doing so.
