Well, I've written installers that run through an FTP port. They create a save file on the target system, upload the contents of that save file (an "inner" save file containing the actual product, and an installer program), restore those objects, then start the installer program, all through a single FTP connection.

And I've written a suite of utilities that transfer stuff between our boxes, squirting save files between them and initiating restores.

It's all done with "rcmd."
