If your OS supports it you could use RTVDIRINF.
it will create a file of the contents of the directory.

An even older way was to use the FTP "DIR" command to output to a file,
that you can then open inside your CL pgm. FTP is installed on 99% of
all boxes, so it was a good choice for "flattening and printing" out a
list of files. The file produced also includes the full path name.
