Instead of guessing, how hard would it be to log timestamps for awhile?
Basically if LogDataArea is set to '1' then record checkpoint id and
timestamp to some file (stream file or DB2). Or even turn on logging in
the joblog (based on the data area perhaps) and log that information
there. This would allow you to see which steps are slower than others.
Don't want to modify? Then TRCJOB perhaps?
