I was taught RPG and COBOL at a community college on a S/34 by a
combination of existing college staff and by programmers and analysts
teaching at night. Community colleges are much more responsive to local
business needs than universities are. That community college no longer
teaches for the platform. Major local business going under probably had
something to do with it.

Actually we've had good luck with taking young people either new to the
platform or new to programming and bringing them up to speed. Slam them
through a battery of ATS courses and have someone mentor them. Offer them
COMMON. We've also found they had much less resistance to learning WDSC,
subprocedures, service programs, SQL and so on.
