OK Host Adapter it is then (Though the V4R2 System handbook says it is a "Disk Unit Controller" :-) ) I have a FC #6532 and a FC #6533. Those both are RAID capable cards but will also support Mirrored drives as well. Additionally the FC #6533 supports compression. You should be able to plug it in and power up. Mirroring is handled by OS/400 so this card is just the 'wire' between the OS and the device.

Name your price! :-)

6530? You mean the big Aluminum sided 1" thick SPD Book type 6530? It's
actually the IOP and Disk Controller all in one.
Uh, the last time I checked, SCSI drives had the controller on the drive
itself. Host adapter, maybe . . . .

As to "better," would "better" still involve a fairly painless
installation, with the non-reporting mirrored pair coming right back up?

40S, running V4R2. And the missing drives ARE spinning up, so long as
they're plugged in. Is there a possibility (short of both drives failing
at the same time, yet still spinning up normally) that it's something
other than the 6530?
