Perhaps, but in that case you're actually doing an "extending subfile".

The system has to reallocate the buffer every time the subfile size is
too small for the next record.  This adds overhead.

Using a SFLSIZ of 9999, means you've wasted space (& bandwidth?) and
also would impact the workings of the GUI scroll bars...

If you're doing a load all subfile, it's best to set the initial
subfile size to at least close to what the final size will be.
