Rob,

Thanks for that! I would think we need a better solution than go back to a
previous version. That is not possible for a lot of people who have to be
compatible with more modern websites.

I think that FF and Chrome need to be better at working with older sites. I
don't know how (and don't currently have time to investigate) to open an
issue with them about being compatible.

Being on HMC 7330 (for the time being) I will have to deal with the issue
until I upgrade, IBM fixes the issue, or FF/Chrome fixes the issue.

Thanks again for getting this going. Can I add to the PMR or should I open
another to put pressure on IBM to get this fixed?

What you have stumbled across is an issue that has recently appeared.
Firefox 4 is not a supported (at this time) version of browser to work
with the HMC remotely.

We have created a request to development to get this repaired. The same
issues are also in IE8 which is also unsupported for now. In IE8 there
is a compatibility mode that can be used to circumvent the problems.

Our hope is that Mozilla will also release such a circumvention for the
short term fix.

For now, you will need to go back to V3 if possible, or you can use IE7,
both of which are currently supported. I don't have a timeline for when
this issue would be fixed in any HMC release as it is more an issue
related to the browser.

Hope this helps, let me know if there is anything else we can assist you
with, or if we should close out the call.

Thanks for using IBM Support.

So, what do you think? Do I close out the call now and use their
reacharound, or keep it open until there's a solution?

And, since I am running a 7310-CR2 what are the odds of there being a new
level of HMC code to work?

Rob,

Thanks for this post. I too, have the same issue that started after
upgrading to the new Firefox and Chrome browser versions. I don't have
Windows 7 (still stuck on XP) and can't upgrade to the newest Explorer
version. My version 8 of Explorer sort of works, but has different
annoyances (not liking the certificate from the HMC). I have tried all
the
suggestions listed below, and have had no luck in fixing the issue.

If anyone does come across a solution that works for you, please post in
detail what you did to fix it. My boss has the same problem when
accessing
our HMC, and I would like to get us both fixed.

And, from another post:
You might try pointing your browser to www.java.com to see what version
you're using. Click on "Do I Have Java?" and do the Install
Verification.

This seems a little dated:

I also noticed this:
Firefox 1.5.0.7
Note: For Firefox 2.0 make sure the JavaScript options to raise or lower
windows and move or resize existing windows are enabled. To enable these
options, go to the Content tab in the browser's Options dialog, click
Advanced? next to the Enable JavaScript option, then select Raise or
lower
windows option (a check mark appears) and Move or resize existing
windows
options (a check mark appears). These features allow you to switch
easily
between HMC tasks.

Firefox
1. Tools -> Options
2. Select Cookies Tab
3. Select check box Allow sites to set cookies.
4. If you want to allow only specific sites then select 'Exceptions'
and then you can just add this HMC to allow.

My boss had this problem and I forget exactly how we beat this into
submission.

Whoops!

Just clicked ok to Firefox v4 and discovered that it is not compatible
with HMC 7.7.1.

I have three LPARs but Firefox v4 only shows 3.

Damn!
