I think it is easier than you think. Recompile the display file with
RSTDSP(*YES).

This is harder than it needs to be. I've tried removing the OVERLAY
keyword and leave in PUTOVR and OVRDTA. Next, I removed PUTOVR and
OVRDTA
and left in OVERLAY. I've also taken everything out. No difference.
