I only suggest this because I have seen a "batch" program before that
someone canabalized from a display program. They were using a subfile for
array processing. Ughhh! They would aggregate data in it and then read
back through it to reprocess what had been collected. I'm not normally in
the habit of rewriting programs just because they are hard to follow but
this was an exception.

In your case it might be that something in the middle is opeing a display
file with RSTDSP(*NO). Will it affect anything if nothing is ever written
to the screen? I wouldn't think so but I don't have any better ideas that
fit my theory.
