The gig switches almost eliminate latency inside a corporate network and if you have say 12 developers all on the same switch, (the situation I had) then the switch becomes the constraint. A Gb switch eliminated the issue and all was well. If your switching equipment is newer, and has sufficient memory/backplane capacity, you won't have an issue. You'll find the network running at very low usage, until everyone refreshes the screen at one time......
