I think it's a 'Q' IIRC. IOW, if you have an all numeric password, the
system prefixes it with a Q. I just created a user profile, changed
the password to Q12345, and signed on with a password of 12345.

I'm guessing you're not using 128 character passwords...

In which case, the i requires an alpha character at the start...

Some vague quirk in the OS allows you to enter a numeric, but it is ignored.

So if you enter "1password" it is the same as entering "password"

So you're users password on Windows is "1password" but on the i it is
"password", but the i accepts "1password".  However, when sending it
for the QNTC connection teh i is only sending "password".

All,

Can someone confirm or tell me if you've run into this.  A user changed her
System i and Windows passwords.  They match, but start with a digit.  She
can sign on to both Windows and the System i with this password.

*BUT* there is a job she runs once a day that copies 3 PDFs from the IFS to
a windows share via the QNTC route.  It's worked fine for many months until
2 days ago when she changed her password to START with a digit.  The W2008
Security event viewer says it's the wrong password.  Could it be that
Netserver (or whatever it is on the System i that supplies the password)
cannot handle a password starting with a digit?

Thanks.
