Thanks to all who helped (and even to all who only tried to help). Your assistance allowed me to track down the deletions.

Although I did test the *TYPE3/*VARLEN option on the outfile on our own box, by that time, I was already pouring a week's worth of DO entries into a spool file (I'm not sure, but I think it's an even longer spool file than the QuestView compilation listing is! Certainly somewhere in the same order of magnitude), and scanning the spool file for the leading directories of the pathname turned them up quickly enough.
