I would assume the job logs are just spooled files in an outq.
</snip>

I wouldn't. Ours aren't. We changed system value QLOGOUTPUT to
discourage users from destroying needed joblogs in their quest to keep
their spool files low.

sample:
DSPJOB
Job: ROBS1 User: ROB Number: 950328
SIGNOFF LOG(*LIST)

sign back on
WRKJOB JOB(950328/ROB/ROBS1)
4. Work with spooled files
Device or
File Queue User Data Status
QPDSPFFD FIN
QPDSPFFD FIN
QPDSPFFD FIN
QPDSPFFD FIN

10. Display job log, if active, on job queue, or pending
...
5 > dspjob
5>> SIGNOFF LOG(*LIST)
Object HUH in QTEMP type *FILE deleted.
Object HUH2 in QTEMP type *FILE deleted.
Job 950328/ROB/ROBS1 ended on 09/09/11 at 08:50:17; .158 seconds used;
end
code 0 .

Key words on option 10 being ", or pending".

Entered
Job User Number Type -----Status----- System
ROBS1 ROB 950328 INTER JOBLOG PENDING 09/09/11

Since the arrival of this system value IBM has changed numerous job
descriptions to
Job log output . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : *PND
